Cricket Kenya has announced a significant restructuring of its national team management, aiming to enhance its competitive edge and align with long-term strategic goals. This initiative underscores Cricket Kenya's commitment to excellence and innovation in the sport.
The restructuring involves the creation of two crucial bodies: the Elite Squads and National Teams Sub-Committee, and the National Selection Panel. This comes just before the Kenya men's cricket national team is expected to compete in the Challenge League B in September this year in Nairobi, where Kenya will be grouped alongside Denmark, Jersey, Kuwait, Papua New Guinea, and Qatar.
The Elite squads and National Teams Sub-Committee will oversee national team affairs, including preparations for national assignments. Narendra Patel will chair the committee, with other members including Sreenivas Thota, Tom Tikolo, Tariq Khan, Kanti Rabadia, John Omondi, and Charity Wambui, the only female members of the committee.
A five-member National Selection Panel has also been appointed to select the various teams for national assignments in coordination with the Elite Sub-Committee. The panel will be chaired by Alfred Njuguna, with members including David Waters, David Tikolo, Peeyush Sawjani, and Rajab Ali.
In a statement released on July 31, Cricket Kenya Chairman Manoj Patel expressed his enthusiasm for the new appointments, highlighting their importance in achieving the organization’s objectives.
"This restructuring is a testament to our commitment to fostering a world-class environment for our national team. By leveraging the expertise of our new leadership and specialized departments, we are poised to achieve new heights," said Patel.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Cricket Kenya CEO Ronald Bukusi explained the motivations behind the restructuring of the national team management. He emphasized the strategic importance of this move for the organization.
"The restructuring of the National Team Management at this time was inspired by the need to have a team that oversees the national team and how we select players," said Bukusi. He highlighted that the primary goal of the restructuring is to place a strong emphasis on the players and their preparation for future competitions.
"The goal for this restructuring is to have a key focus on the players and future competitions for the national team," he added.
